My top tips for styling your home

One of the things I hear a lot from clients when it comes to styling a space is "I just don't know where to start". It's really normal to end up with a space that's just full of a lot of stuff - at the end of the day our houses are lived in and we accumulate things all the time! So this week I wanted to give you a bit of advice on how to style a space, are you up for the challenge??

So first up, choose where you want to style. Don't go too big, something like a sideboard or a couple of shelves... There is just one caveat - I want it to be somewhere that you will walk past, or see everyday! You're going to create a lovely little moment in your home, so I want to make sure you make the most out of it!

Next, clear the decks - make sure your space is completely empty. Then take an inventory of the items that you have that you want to use. If you can, lay it all out in front of you so you can see it all. Ideally you're going to have a mix of books, vases, candles, photo frames, plants, baskets and decor objects.

Next place your larger items in situ, these are your foundation pieces. If you're doing shelves you'll want to consider making the shelves look balanced, so one or two large items on each shelf for example. Then you can add in your smaller items around the larger ones to make groups of items - 2 or 3 items in a group is perfect! We make lots of smaller groups of items, in order to make a space not feel cluttered.

Lastly, step back and check the overall balance. You will want varying heights and textures to make sure that there is interest for the eye!
